We’re still getting used to the new timeline set-up. Second, how awesome is this? Facebook is a prime example of a company embracing the world for what it is…constantly changing. We think they’re on the right track for being so inclusive and so upfront with their efforts.

Check out the photo responses to Miss Representation’s...

Check out the photo responses to Miss Representation’s Keep It Real Challenge!

As our followers, you all know how much we love the message behind Miss Representation. Did you know that they have a blog? Did you know this past weekend marked the kickoff of their newest campaign, called Keep It Real? Did you know this campaign was inspired by none other than 14-year-old Julia Blume, whom Teen Voices recently interviewed regarding her and her friends’ efforts to get Seventeen Magazine to produce one page of unaltered photos per issue? Well, if you didn’t, now you do!

The Keep It Real campaign is all about propelling Julia’s message. Miss Representation wants mainstream magazines to pledge their dedication to showing real people, no Photoshop necessary. The Twitter campaign, which was launched on Day One, is the perfect way to utilize the technologies of today to show people the change their voices can make.

We hope you feel empowered by both Julia and Miss Representation’s efforts! We know we do. Here at we’re completely behind the campaign and message. We continue to offer a print and online magazine chock full of photos that are and will always be Photoshop free.

1. She has an incredibly beautiful soul.

3. She gave the media a well-deserved slap on the wrist. Forget slap on the wrist. She gave the media a well-deserved punch in the face.

4. She’s a feminist and proud of it.

5. She refuses to be anything but herself, which is an incredibly strong, passionate woman with a unique voice and enough moxy to go around.

Take the recent Cannes Film Festival and an appearance by Jane Fonda, an actress and activist who took part in the Miss Representation video, on the red carpet:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-2145521/Cannes-2012-Jane-Fonda-worlds-sexiest-septuagenarian-outshines-stars-half-age-Cannes-Film-Festival.html

On the one hand, it is fantastic to see people beginning to acknowledge women’s beauty and sexual prowess as they age. The fact that a woman in her seventies such as Jane Fonda could be considered sexy or sexual is a recent phenomenon. It is ridiculous to think that women lose their ability to feel sexy/sexual as they age; it is simply not true—of either sex. People are sexual at every age, and this disposal of the arbitrary expiration date for females is refreshing and overdue. On the other hand, why are we so focused on her ‘sexiness?’ Why couldn’t the article have been titled with the caption from one of the photos: “Take note, ladies. [Jane Fonda] gave a lesson in style and grace.”? Why is sexy the ultimate thing a woman can be? Ask Liz Thomas, the author of the article, why women are judged on their sex appeal. Ask her why a female journalist is contributing to the objectification of women. Ask if all she wants to be acknowledged for, as a female in her field, is being sexy.

Messages of empowerment are all around.
